My name is Dr. Michele Haley, and my nonprofit organization, TogetherWell, helps people in need improve their mental health.
How do we do this? TogetherWell provides mental health education workshops and resources for all communities. By empowering people with knowledge and skills, TogetherWell improves overall mental health outcomes.
Having lost family members to mental illness, I learned the hard way that barriers keep people from getting help– barriers like stigma, lack of education, and cost. I witnessed this reality firsthand and in my work as a psychologist. I created TogetherWell as a safe space where people can learn about mental health issues and improve their well-being. When people have the right tools, they can overcome challenges and build resilience.
As the number of people experiencing mental health symptoms continues to rise in the U.S., TogetherWell is ready with tools to help. Through my work, I realized the systemic barriers to mental healthcare that prevent access to services. I knew a different approach was needed to address the needs of underserved communities. I soon realized that workshops could be an effective gateway to support those who may not be ready or able to access traditional mental health services.
The people who take the first steps to seek help for themselves and their communities by coming to the TogetherWell platform drive my work. They advocate for their needs by attending a Wellness Wednesday workshop or booking a tailored workshop and opening the door to education and resources for their community. These workshops are at the core of what we do, providing a comfortable and safe place for participants to express shared personal issues and address their common need for information.
Since I founded TogetherWell in 2019, we have helped over 10,000 people with our workshops, educational resources, and partnerships. I’m so passionate about TogetherWell’s mission that I self-funded it to get it started. I also volunteered 100% of my time and recruited over 100 volunteers to help.
