If you're a Twitch streamer looking to expand your reach, the Twitch Dual Format features make it simple. This new feature (currently in Beta) allows your audience to view streams horizontally (traditional) or vertically (optimized for mobile devices). It's a perfect opportunity to cater to the growing number of mobile viewers while still serving those who prefer the classic layout.
The best part? Streamlabs Desktop is working with Twitch, enabling you to customize overlays, sources, and more for both views. Keep reading to discover how Dual Format can help you reach more viewers on Twitch.
Note: This feature is only available to a limited number of users at this time (with Beta access) and is available on Streamlabs Desktop preview build.
System Requirements
Below are the current minimum requirements for the Twitch Dual Format feature.
GPU and Driver Version:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX (3070 or better) or better
- AMD Radeon RX 6000 (6600 or better) for 1080p dual format streams.
- We recommend AMD Radeon RX 7000 series (7600 or better) for dual format streams in 1440p.
Operating System: Windows 10/11
Vertical Canvas: 1080x1920
How to Use Twitch Dual Format with Streamlabs Desktop
Once you have beta acces from Twitch, follow the instructions below to use the feature within Streamlab's Preview build.
Step 1: Download Streamlabs Desktop preview build here.
Step 2: Launch and log in with your Twitch account. Only allowed accounts will be able to use this feature for now.
Step 3: Toggle on Dual Output. You can do this right from the editor window in Streamlabs Desktop.

Step 4: Head to Settings > Video to set up your resolution and FPS for each canvas. Click Done when you're finished.

Step 5: Adjust your sources within the Editor by displaying or hiding what you wish viewers to see. Resize elements to make sure nothing important is cut off in either view.

Step 6: When you're ready to livestream, click Go Live. Make sure Twitch is selected as your destination, toggling on both options to stream vertically and horizontally.
Note: During this initial testing phase, you can only stream to Twitch when both orientations are selected.

Step 7: Next, click Confirm and Go Live!
Step 8: Both stream layouts will broadcast simultaneously to Twitch. We recommend doing a test stream—watch your stream on a mobile device to preview your vertical stream and ensure all key elements display properly.
Please note: Mobile viewers will see a pop-up letting them know that this feature is still in Beta when they enter your vertical stream. They can switch back to the classic view by clicking the button when prompted.
Web viewers will not be notified that you are participating in this Beta.

Step 9: Use inspector.twitch.tv to monitor performance. Streaming both formats requires more resources, so watch your CPU/GPU load and adjust as needed.
Things You Should Know
Dual Format is still in testing, so there are some limitations, including that Twitch features may not be available at the moment, such as:
- You will only be allowed to stream to Twitch (no other platforms) when the "both" option is selected.
- System requirements for this feature are still being tested. Keep in mind that you may experience some hiccups. Be sure to report any issues to help us improve the feature.
- Some features and design elements may not be available to viewers watching in the vertical format. However, those watching in classic view on mobile or web should not encounter these issues. We're working diligently to ensure the viewing experience matches across formats.
- Vertical VODs will not be available during the initial testing phase.
- Chat overlay will not be available in the Beta testing experience on mobile when rotating the device to landscape mode. However, it will still be available in classic view on mobile.
- Details for features such as Shared Chat and Stream Together
- A few default channel point rewards aren't visible in the mobile vertical view on Android, but don't worry-all your custom rewards are still available.
