Who is TacticalLion Designs?
TacticalLion Designs is a design studio established in 2014 that has been working closely with Streamlabs, producing over 210 unique themes on the Streamlabs Library. We are a team of designers and animators from the UK who produce various high-quality, animated stream packages.
What made you want to be a designer? How did you start designing overlays/alerts for streamers?
I started designing years ago in online communities, creating signature banners and small graphics. That was the entry point, learning how to make something that people actually wanted to use, not just something that looked good.
As streaming started to grow, it felt like a natural transition. A lot of early overlays were either overdesigned or hard to use, so we focused on creating clean, simple designs that support the stream rather than take attention away from it. The goal was always to make streamers look better instantly without making things complicated.
Could you share any insight into your design process? What are your inspirations?
Everything starts with a mood board. We’ll gather references, colour direction, and get a feel for the style before touching any software.
From there, we move into After Effects and Photoshop to build things out. Over time, our process has become more refined, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the focus on minimal design. The stream and the creator should always be the focal point.
Inspiration comes from everywhere, not just streaming. We’re always looking at how things feel, not just how they look.
What does it mean to run a business in the creator economy?
It means you’re building tools for people who are also building something. That changes how you think about design.
You’re not just making something that looks good in a screenshot. It has to work in real situations, across different setups, for different types of creators.
There’s a level of responsibility. A lot of streamers are just starting out, so if your product is confusing or poorly designed, it genuinely slows them down. If it’s done right, it helps them get up and running faster and feel more confident going live.
What are your favorite themes you've made to date?
Overlay Package: Border is clean, simple, and works across pretty much any type of stream without needing to be customized heavily. We like this one because it does exactly what it needs to.
Widget Theme: Nightmode is one of our most complete widget collections. It’s extremely minimal, easy to read, and designed for long streaming sessions where clarity really matters.
Reactive Sources: Smooth features minimal design with a more vibrant colour palette. It adds energy to a stream without becoming distracting.
Game Pulse Theme: Fright is a personal favourite. It leans into horror and thriller styling, one of our favourite styles.
Working with thousands of streamers across various platforms we have had the privilege to create some fantastic designs based on truly unique ideas. With most streamers opting for animation in some capacity throughout their designs we now have a wide range of design scope to craft something unique to each streamer.
