So you want to go live from your web browser using Talk Studio, but don’t see the streaming destination of your choice currently supported? The quick solution is streaming to a Custom RTMP.
Summary:
- A Custom RTMP allows you to stream to platforms other than those that are natively integrated with streaming software.
- You need an RTMP URL and stream key (provided by the destination where you wish to send your live stream).
- Don't forget to set up your live stream beforehand (e.g., enabling mic/camera access for the browser, setting background, etc.).
- Have fun streaming!
A Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) allows you to stream to any other social destination that is not natively supported on a streaming software like Talk Studio (for example, Instagram Live). As long as you know the RTMP URL and stream key, you can use them to set up the destination on Talk Studio.
P.S. Check out our dedicated guide for specific steps for live streaming on Instagram via a web browser (using Talk Studio). In that guide, you will find information about using Instagram Live Producer to find your stream key and URL to set up Instagram as an RTMP Destination.
Before Streaming to an RTMP Destination
1. First, log in to Talk Studio using your Streamlabs ID or connected social media account. Don’t worry—you won’t be forced to stream from your connected social media account. More on that in just a second.
If you’re new to Talk Studio, sign up using a Streamlabs ID, email address, or preferred social media platform.
2. If this is your first time logging into Talk Studio, be sure to allow your browser to access your camera and microphone. If you encounter any issues, simply reload the site and grant access to your camera and microphone when prompted. You can also double-check this by clicking on the icon located to the left of your browser's address bar.
3. Now, you want to add yourself to the streaming canvas (the screen in the middle). Remember, whatever appears on this screen will appear on your livestream. To do so, hover over your camera feed and click Show on Stream.
How to Add Custom RTMP Destination in Talk Studio
- Once you set up your camera, canvas, etc., for live streaming, click Go Live from your Talk Studio dashboard If you don’t have any destinations added to Talk Studio, you may receive a reminder after clicking Go Live. If so, acknowledge the reminder, then click Add Destination.
- Next, select Add Custom RTMP from the top right of the window that appears on your screen.
- Now, it’s time to add in your destination. Find the appropriate stream URL and stream key and enter them in the designated fields. Don’t forget to name the destination. When you’ve filled out each field, click Add.
- Once your destination has been added, select it, then click Next.
- Give your live stream a title and brief description, then click Go Live.
- That’s it! You’re now streaming on your custom RTMP.
P.S. If you wish to stream to multiple destinations using Talk Studio (RTMP plus native integrations), a simple upgrade to a standard or pro plan is your ticket for multistreaming like a pro. Multistream up to three destinations with the Standard option or an unlimited number of destinations with a Pro subscription.
