In this edition of our Theme Designer Spotlight, we checked in with BantStudio to talk design process, favorite themes, and their journey into creating assets for streamers.
What made you want to be a designer? How did you start designing overlays/alerts for streamers?
I’ve always worked in IT as a developer and systems analyst. In 2020, due to the pandemic, I lost my job and was asked to help fix some issues on Dan’s website (the owner of Streamspell), who has been a close friend of mine for 35 years. That’s when I discovered this world and became interested in learning more, since I’ve always enjoyed illustrations and saw the potential to use my creativity to create stream overlays. At first, I was doing it mainly because I enjoyed creating them!
Could you share any insight into your design process? What are your inspirations?
My design process is 99% done by hand — I grab my pen and start sketching on paper, usually something I like or something inspired by an anime whose art I really loved. After that, I move to my tablet, where I break down all the parts that will be animated, and finally bring everything into After Effects to finish the process. My inspirations always come from Eastern culture and anime — it’s my daily obsession, haha.
