As you may know, we've introduced Podcast Editor to the Streamlabs family. This robust tool was designed to help creators like you edit video and audio podcast episodes in just a few simple steps. In this blog, we will walk you through all of the features of Streamlabs Podcast Editor that you should know so you can get started creating today.
Starting Your First Podcast Editing Project
- Before you can edit your first podcast, you will need to set up your account so all your content can live in one place. You can set up your account with any email address of your choice, using Google or Apple to log in, and lastly, Streamlabs ID.
We recommend using Streamlabs ID as it's the easiest way to log into all apps under the Streamlabs umbrella (after all, remembering a ton of logins is so antiquated). If you're new to Streamlabs or still need to create your login, check out this guide for setting up your Streamlabs ID. - Once you're logged into Podcast Editor, you'll find yourself on your dashboard, where all of your beautiful projects will live. To begin editing, select New Project.
- Now, it’s time to add a video file for you to edit. You can drag and drop a video to upload, browse your device for files, or insert a link from YouTube, Google Drive, or Dropbox.
Recording From Your Browser
The great thing about Streamlabs Podcast Editor is that you also have the option to record straight from your device via Talk Studio. Press the Record button when creating a new project, and you'll be directed to Talk Studio to record your content. Be sure to check out our guide to learn more about recording your podcast with Talk Studio.
How to Edit Your Podcast Using Podcast Editor
Once you’re in your project, you’ll see the video transcript to the left (which works as a timeline) and the video preview to the right. When you create a new project and are in the editing window, you’ll see a few areas for editing your podcast. Below, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know.
Sizing: Before beginning to edit your project, choosing the correct sizing for your canvas is important, as it's easier to work from the canvas size corresponding to the platform to which you'll be uploading content. To do this, simply click where it says the current size (i.e., Portrait, Landscape, Square), then choose the appropriate canvas size from the drop-down.
Correct Transcript: If you notice errors in your transcript (i.e., the word “bat” being mistaken for “cat”), you can select Correct Transcript to make any necessary edits. When you’re done, choose Finish Correction to save your changes.
Create Clip: Besides editing your podcast, you can create clips, aka shorter pieces of content, to share across multiple platforms. You can do this by selecting Create Clip from the top or left navigation bar. When creating your clips, simply select the desired beginning and ending by highlighting the text and selecting Create Clip. Remember to adjust the size of your canvas before exporting your clip.
In the left navigation bar, you also have the option to create AI-assisted clips (currently in beta). These suggested clips feature key moments in your video worth sharing as sound bites or smaller pieces of content.
Add Elements: If your video can use a little spicing up, you can add elements such as text images, shapes, emojis, progress bars, video, and audio. Select the type of element you'd like to add from the drop-down, and it'll appear on your video to the right. Adjust any element by dragging it into the desired position on your video, and make edits by selecting it and adjusting it for your liking. For example, adding text as an element can change the font, color, size, animation, etc.
Search Bar: Misspoke or need to find words to eliminate from your video footage? There’s a function for that! Use the search bar to find the word or phrase and delete if necessary. Additionally, you can add elements to appear when a word or phrase is spoken—stock photos powered by Pexels are available for use, but you can also upload your own.
In the left navigation bar, you can do the following.
Use a Template: If you’re looking to stylize your video, you can choose from a library of templates to add the extra oomph you were looking for. You also have the option to create your own template to use in your current project and future ones.
Add Subtitles: Subtitles are a great way to make your videos more accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. By turning on subtitles, you can have on-screen captions that match your transcript so everyone can enjoy your content.
Translate the Transcript: Need to translate your video, text, or audio into another language? Podcast Editor makes it possible with the click of a button. Simply toggle on the Translation option, choose your desired language (currently over 25 to choose from, FYI), translate voice, and you're all set!
Use Quick Actions: The Quick Actions tab makes editing with Podcast Editor even simpler than it already is. You can remove pauses and filler words like “um” or “uh” by clicking the action and letting Streamlabs Podcast Editor do the work for you.
Sharing and Exporting Your Content
Not only is editing easy, peasy with our software, but sharing content is just as simple. If you want to invite someone to take a look at your project, select Invite from the top right of your screen, adjust the view and edit settings, then share the link.
To export your content, click the blue Export button and select whether you want to export the video, audio, subtitles, or text. The file will then begin exporting. The download may take several minutes depending on the size and length of your file, so be patient while Podcast Editor works its magic. While your content is exporting, please feel free to step away. We’ll email you when it’s ready!
