Are you an avid Twitch viewer wondering how long you’ve been following a specific streamer? On the flip side, are you a streamer who would love a simple way to know how long your viewers have been following? While you may think you’re alone in wanting to see this kind of information, you’re not, and there’s a simple way to find out—adding a followage command to your Twitch.
As the name suggests, a followage command is a way for viewers to figure out how long they’ve been following a streamer by typing “!followage” in the chat box. From a streamer’s perspective, it’s a great stat to know (and a reason to shout out your fans for their loyalty). For viewers, it’s an easy way to let a creator know that you enjoy their content and you’re here for the long haul.
As you may have guessed, to set up a followage command, you must use a third-party bot. In this tutorial, we’ll provide you with a couple of options to get you started today. Keep reading to learn more.
Adding a Followage Command Using Streamlabs Cloudbot
Before getting started, make sure your dashboard is set to Twitch, as this is currently the only platform that supports the followage command from Cloudbot. You can check this by clicking your profile in the top right corner of your browser window.
- From your Streamlabs Dashboard, head over to the left side of your screen and click on Cloudbot.
- Once you get to the next screen, make sure Cloudbot is enabled by clicking the switch.
- Under the “Commands” tab select “Custom” then “Add Command.”
- You’ll be presented with a window with a dropdown of command templates. Scroll down to “!followage,” click on the command and select “Confirm.”
- Once you’ve confirmed the followage command, you should see the window below displaying your active custom commands. You can delete or make edits from this window.
- That’s it! !followage is set up for you and your viewers to use.
Though this tutorial is specifically about adding the followage command to your Twitch, if you’re interested in knowing more about Cloudbot and all of the customization options, you can check out Cloudbot 101: Part 1 and Part 2.
Adding a Followage Command Using Nightbot
Another way to set up a followage command on Twitch is by using Nightbot. Here’s how to complete the two-part process to set it up.
Add the Followage Command
- Head over to the Nightbot site and click “Login.”
- Click “login with Twitch” and input your credentials when you get to the next window.
- Once you get to the Nightbot dashboard, click “Join Channel” to allow Nightbot access to your Twitch channel. If you’re already using Nightbot and see “Part Channel,” do not click this—skip to the next step.
- Next, select “Commands” then “Custom” on the far left panel.
- Once you’re on the channel commands window, click “+Add Command.”
- Next, type in “!followage” in the designated command field.
- Where you see “Message,” input the text below as the command response, then click “Submit”:
!commands add !followsince $(urlfetch https://2g.be/twitch/following.php?user=$(touser)&channel=$(channel)&format=mwdhm
You can also tweak settings from this window. We recommend setting a cooldown so viewers aren’t able to spam your chat with the command.
Assign Nightbot as a Mod
- Open Twitch and log in with your account.
- Click on your profile picture in the top right-hand corner and select your channel.
- Next, select Chat.
- In the chatbox, type “/mod nightbot.” Nightbot is now added as a mod for your chat, and viewers should be able to use the followage command. You can test the command yourself by dropping “!followage” in the chat but keep in mind that it will say you’re not following as you can’t follow your own channel.
See—within minutes, you can be on your way to adding a followage command to your Twitch. Encourage a follower to check their followage on your next stream and watch the other viewers join in!
