YouTube has come such a long way from the carefree video platform it started as almost two decades ago. Today, YouTube is a video search engine (the largest, behind Google) and is a serious career path for many creators. YouTube frequently updates the platform to help creators build stronger online communities and place the right content in front of those who would enjoy it the most. One feature that YouTube has introduced to further this mission is Community Posts.
What is a Community Post on YouTube?
Community posts live on the Community Tab of a creator’s channel but can also appear on the Home feed. These posts are another way to communicate and interact with your subscribers outside of posting new video content. Generally speaking, you need 500 or more subscribers to create community posts or have access to advanced features from verifying your identity on the platform.
Types of Community Posts
There are a few different formats that you can choose from to create community posts that feel right for you and your audience.
Text Posts
You can post text alone or add a visual (video, image, or GIF) to make it more engaging. However, you can’t combine text posts with polls.
Remember, you can now use YouTube handles to mention other creators or users on the platform, so keep this in mind when creating your community posts.
Playlist Posts
Have a YouTube playlist that you want to share with your audience? Copy and paste the URL into the text field to share. You can also learn more about creating YouTube playlists here.
Image and GIF Posts
YouTube is a video-first platform, but Community posts are one place to share images and GIFs with your audience.
Video Posts
When you choose to add a video, you can search for a YouTube video, paste a link to a YouTube video, or select a video from your YouTube channel. If you’re already using Video Editor to edit your videos (which you absolutely should if you need something free and straight to the point), you may want to add “Create YouTube video community post” to your checklist.
Polls
You can create either a text or image poll by entering your question in the text field and answers in the option fields. If you need more answer fields, click Add Option.
How to Create a Community Post
- Sign into your YouTube account.
- Next, select Create, then Create Post at the top right side of the screen.
- Type a message to create a text post, or choose between an image, video, or poll post.
- When you’re satisfied, click Post to make the community post live.
- Alternatively, select the down arrow next to Post and select Schedule Post instead. Here you’ll need to choose the date, time, and time zone for when the post should go live.
- That’s it! You’ve created your first YouTube community post.
Creating community posts may seem like yet another task to add to your long laundry list of items to complete, but we encourage you to use this tool to build a stronger bond with your community. Additionally, it’s a quick and easy way to promote your new YouTube content exported right from the Video Editor editor. Give it a try, and let us know what you think!
