Similarities to Established Platforms
Kick shares several features with well-known streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube Live, and Facebook Live. Users can subscribe to their favorite creators' channels, send tips to support them, and stream in high-definition (currently supports up to 8000 kbps). Familiar features like channel panels, clip uploading, moderation capabilities, earning badges, and using emotes are also available for enhancing the streaming experience on Kick.
How Is Kick Different From Twitch?
For starters, Kick has a much smaller user base than Twitch. In early 2023, Kick celebrated hitting 1 million users, while Twitch was reported to have about 140 million monthly active users at that time. Additionally, while Just Chatting is the number one streamed category on Twitch at the time of this writing, followed by games such as Diablo IV and Valorant, the number one category on Kick is Slots & Casino, followed by Just Chatting, and games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Fortnite.
How to Get Affiliate Status on Kick
Similarly to Twitch, Kick's Creator Dashboard walks you through the steps to becoming an affiliate on the platform. To become an affiliate, one must gather 75 followers and stream for 5 hours (compared to Twitch's more robust requirements, which include 50 followers, 500 minutes/~8 hours broadcast time, seven unique broadcast days, and three concurrent viewers or more, all within the last 30 days).
Verification Requirements
Kick also sets criteria for account verification. Users must have a confirmed phone number on file and enable two-factor authentication (2FA). These measures protect users' privacy and adhere to the platform's security standards. Hit the following milestones to become verified on Kick.
Monetization
To monetize their channel, creators must accumulate 20 subscribers in the last 30 days (excluding gifted subs). Kick has also stated that it offers streamers a 95/5 revenue split, meaning streamers keep 95% of their subscription revenue.
Maintain a Community
Kick emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining an active community of viewers. Creators striving for verification should aim for an average of 75 viewers in the last 30 days.
Consistency and Putting in Time
Consistency is key, with creators encouraged to stream for 12 days and 30 hours within the same 30-day timeframe.
Engagement
Additionally, fostering engagement is crucial, as creators must have 300 unique chatters within the last 30 days.
As an emerging streaming platform, Kick invites users to join a small but diverse global community. As Kick evolves, it promises an exciting journey, catering to creators and viewers pursuing immersive and engaging streaming experiences. The question is, will you be testing the waters and streaming on this new platform?
