Can you provide some background on your channel, how long you’ve been streaming and what you typically like to stream?
I actually started streaming back on Justin.tv and swapped over to Twitch.tv when it arrived. I wanted to stream my StarCraft 2 play after getting into the esport, and that’s what I’ve done for the past 10 years. I wasn’t always a full-time streamer on my own channel, however — that happened in November 2017. So I’ve been a full-time streamer for 3 years, and it’s almost always StarCraft 2 since my “main” job is commentating. I also stream general strategy and RPG games.
What was it about streaming that initially interested you and inspired you to give it a try?
Honestly, I wanted to raise my profile as an SC2 player and eventually streamer. It just seemed so cool and I thought I had a shot at being competitive. It didn’t work out that way, but I still ended up being a commentator.
What goals or aspirations would you like to achieve this year and in the future?
My goal this year is to have consistently new content. I think a lot about being a content creator is constantly reinventing yourself and not just “doing the grind”. Spending time imagining new things for your stream is better, even if it feels bad to not stream as much as possible.
Were there other streamers that you looked up to and inspired you to start streaming?
Back in the day, I watched a ton of IdrA and just general SC2 pro-gamer streams. Nowadays I find myself listening to advice from people like Harris Heller.
Do you have any tips for new streamers entering the space?
One of the things I’ve learned recently is just pressing the live button and streaming for a long time isn’t actually great. There’s a lot of streams nowadays that prove that time spent streaming can actually be better spent thinking of fun things to put on stream. Reaching out to other streamers for collaborations and diversifying for your content while streaming 4 hours, 5 days a week is better than doing nothing but streaming 10 hours, 7 days a week.
