What was the moment that made you say to yourself, “I want to be a Twitch streamer?”
All my life I’ve loved to entertain people in a number of different ways, mostly music-related, and playing video games at a high level for people to watch. I discovered Twitch through the Games Done Quick YouTube, and the second I discovered speedrunning/Twitch, I realized that I had to pursue it because I’m able to do 2 of my favorite things at the same time (play Zelda and entertain) for a full time job.
If you could only speed run one game the rest of your life what would it be?
With The Legend of Zelda being my favorite video game franchise of all time and with the experience I have in attaining world record times, I would have to pick The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask as a single game that I would be comfortable speedrunning for the rest of my life (assuming my hands would allow). After over 5,000 hours streamed playing these different Zelda games, I can comfortably say they will never get old to me.
If there’s anything you could go back and tell yourself before starting out in this industry, what would it be?
If there’s one thing I would tell myself upon starting this Twitch journey, it’s to be patient and believe in myself more. There are moments where stream numbers (subs/viewership) can fluctuate, which is inevitable and happens to everyone. The underlying point is to have patience and continue doing what I love most.
What are some recommendations you have for people that want to grow their Twitch channel?
This question sort of ties in with the last one, so I would give an answer similar to the previous one. Patience is the key element here, over time anyone can succeed with a good attitude.
Another thing to understand upon starting a Twitch stream is there is an element of being in the right place at the right time. For me, I was able to go full time after I reached Twitch Partner pursuing my first Majora’s Mask world record. I was also contacted by the Games Done Quick staff to do a run at their 2019 AGDQ event which boosted momentum as well. On another note, I find that a streamer that interacts with their chat is WAY more interesting to watch than one that just solely focuses on playing the game. Having a balance of chat interaction and gameplay is a key element to succeeding on Twitch.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of streaming?
I enjoy doing things outside of streaming as well, including working out, hanging out with friends, and walking my dog. I’ve also met a lot of very amazing people on Twitch, including my current girlfriend of 4 years. Finding a balance of doing things outside of streaming is key to having a clear mindset when you are ready to press the start streaming button.
What is something your viewers may be surprised to learn about you?
Something my viewers might find interesting about me is I used to do actual real-life speed runs. I used to run for my college track team and I was able to run a mile (1600m) in under 5 minutes. I find the element of self-improvement to be so much more powerful than improving as a group or team when relating to sports.
What has been the most memorable moment of your streaming career so far
The most memorable moment I’ve had throughout this entire journey was probably my speedrun of Majora’s Mask that I performed at Awesome Games Done Quick 2019. I had been watching this event since 2012, and being up on that stage in front of 150,000+ viewers was quite a memorable experience. I had my whole team of friends behind me cheering me on and even just thinking about it now makes me emotional. Twitch has shaped almost everything happening in my current life, and I would not change it for anything in the world.
