A Message from Product Manager Ashley (ASHLEYakaASHLEY) about the Streamlabs Desktop Navigation Bar Updates:
To All Streamlabs Desktop Creators,
Hi there! My name is Ashley (ASHLEYakaASHLEY) and I’m a longtime streamer who is heavily invested in the streamer community. Joining the Streamlabs team as the Product Manager has given me the amazing opportunity to advocate for the feedback I’ve heard from friends, colleagues, and my own internal dialogue over the past five years. Seeing the engine from the inside has been a wild experience, and knowing all of the tools and features Streamlabs Desktop has planned for the future makes me excited for what’s to come. Though I can’t tell you our plans just yet (believe me, I wish I could!) I can tell you that each member of the Streamlabs team is incredibly passionate about our mission to serve every creator and the streaming industry at large. You are the reason why we do what we do.
I’m here today to tell you about my first passion project on the Streamlabs team: revamping the navigation bar to make it easier to use for people like myself—those who are easily overwhelmed by a lot of icons with no labels. Though I’ve learned to lean into my own neurodivergence, I found myself struggling to remember which icon to click to get to where I needed, and 9 out of 10 people I asked said they had the same problem. However, I wanted to make sure that those who enjoy the compact, quick access version were still able, thus leading to the version of the navigation bar you see today.
Streamlabs Desktop Navigation Bar New Features
Expanding Navigation Bar:
Use the navigation bar whichever way works best for you by clicking on the arrow > to expand or collapse it.
Expanding Menus:
Want quick access to all the tools but don’t want to see them all the time? Expand or collapse each menu item to show only what you need, when you need it.
Customizable Navigation Bar:
Choose which items are pinned to the navigation bar when it is collapsed by selecting them in the Appearance tab of the Settings menu. Any apps installed from the app store are available to be pinned in this section.
I’d like to give a huge shout out to my team, who made this project a reality, and to the creators who shared their feedback. We may make the tools but you’re the ones who make the magic. Thank you for being a Streamlabs creator and a vital part of our community.
