Twitch introduced stories in 2023 and, a year later, is expanding the feature to include video stories in addition to photos and text. If you’re familiar with Stories on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook, Twitch Stories functions similarly but with a few unique twists explicitly tailored for the live streaming community.
Here’s everything you need to know about Twitch Stories, why you should use them, and how to create one yourself.
What Are Twitch Stories?
Twitch Stories are short posts that streamers can share with their followers. Like Stories on other platforms, Twitch Stories allows you to post updates, share clips, announcements, behind-the-scenes content, or simply engage with your audience between live streams. The Stories are visible for 48 hours and can include text, images, and video. Stories can be shared for everyone to see or specifically for paid subscribers.
Note: Currently, Twitch Stories are limited to Partners and Affiliates with at least one stream of 45 minutes or longer in the last 30 days. Video stories specifically are slowly rolling out to those who fit the eligibility criteria to post stories on Twitch.
Types of Twitch Stories You Can Post
Below are the different types of stories that you can post on Twitch.
Text: Use text Stories to share quick announcements, countdowns to your next stream, or important updates for your followers.
Images: Share images to highlight important milestones, showcase your stream setup, or post promotional content for upcoming streams.
Clips: Share clips you saved on Twitch directly to your story for your viewers to see and indulge.
Video Stories: As the newest addition to the Twitch Stories feature, you can now share short video clips for up to 60 seconds on Twitch. This is an excellent opportunity to share highlights, teasers, or even personal updates to keep your audience engaged when you aren’t live streaming Twitch.
How to Create a Twitch Story
Creating a Twitch Story is easy and can be done directly from the Twitch mobile app. Below are the instructions.
Step 1: Log in to your Twitch account and tap the plus sign (+) in the middle on the bottom navigation window.
Step 2: You’ll see an option to create a Story. Tap on it to start.
Step 3: Swipe through the bottom navigation window to determine what kind of content you want to add to your story. You can choose the camera to take a photo or video (or upload one from your phone’s album). You can also share a clip or choose a canvas/premade background to work off of.
Step 4: Add text, stickers, or other elements to personalize your Story post.
Step 5: Once you’re satisfied, tap + Your Story to share your Story with your followers or Subscribers to share with subscribers only. Your Story will be live for 48 hours, giving your audience ample time to view and interact with your story post.
Twitch Stories offers a unique way to stay connected with your community and grow your Twitch following, even when you’re not live streaming. By taking advantage of this feature, you can keep your followers engaged, promote your Twitch content, and share more of your personality with your audience.
