What Is Streamlabs Studio?
Streamlabs Studio is a tool that allows you to customize your stream screen with overlays, alerts, text, and more while streaming directly from your Xbox to Twitch—no PC or capture card required. Within Streamlabs Studio, you can set up various projects and scenes, then control your stream from any mobile device, laptop, or PC. Once you go live from your Xbox, we’ll do the heavy lifting with broadcasting your professional-looking stream setup to your viewers.
There are two steps you’ll need to take before going live with Streamlabs Studio and your Xbox. First, customize your stream within Streamlabs Studio to get everything looking how you want it. Afterwards, you’ll need to download the Twitch app to your Xbox and get connected. We’ll walk you through how to do both.
How to Customize Your Stream
First you need to access Streamlabs Studio from any mobile device, or a PC if you wish (it’s easier to set up your camera through the mobile device you plan to use). No app needed, just go directly to the Streamlabs Studio website. Create a new project, then choose an overlay from the library.
You’ll receive a popup asking if you want to apply the overlay to your alerts, chat, and events as well. By default, everything is toggled “on.” Make changes if you wish, then click Apply.
From here you can create Scenes, just as you would with Streamlabs Desktop or any other live streaming software.
Click Add Component on the left side of the screen to add your webcam, chat, alerts, etc. Note: Your alerts/chat/etc. will not show up on your TV screen. You will need to read them from your mobile device. Position and resize your components to your liking. You can save your scene once you are happy with it and preview it by clicking on the eye icon at the bottom of the screen. Sample text will pop up in the chat box to give you an idea of what it will look like to your viewers once you go live.
Play around with the overlays to create different scenes and transitions. Don’t worry if you decide you want to modify your layout once you start streaming: you can always change your setup on the fly from your mobile device.
How to Set up Streamlabs Studio with Your Xbox
Step 1: From your Xbox, download the Twitch app.
Step 2: Log in to the app. Once logged in, you will be presented with a code.
Step 3:Go to www.twitch.tv/activate from any mobile device (or your PC) and enter the code.
Step 4: Enter your Twitch username and password, then click Authorize to allow your Xbox to access your Twitch account.
Step 5: Once you are logged in, you will see a Broadcast option at the top of your screen. This is how you will go live straight from your Xbox.
Step 6: The easiest option is to use your mobile device or a laptop as a camera and microphone. If you connect a webcam directly to your Xbox, you will not be able to position it through Streamlabs Studio, rather, you’ll have to control the position via the Xbox Twitch app. Also, your Xbox will not register your camera as a microphone (even if it has one built in). You’ll need to attach a compatible microphone or headset.
Step 7: When you’re ready to go live, simply broadcast to Streamlabs. Note: The default option has Twitch selected, so you will need to change this to Streamlabs.
Once you have started your broadcast via the Twitch app on your Xbox, head to the Streamlabs Studio website on your mobile device to verify that you’re live. From there, you can adjust components of your stream as needed, read your chat, and select different scenes. Enjoy your stream and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Stay safe and happy streaming!
