It’s always a great day in the Streamlabs office any time we get the chance to celebrate and bond with our creators IRL. This year, we rolled out a super exciting giveaway for our All Stars—a paid trip to TwitchCon Las Vegas. For those who might not know, Streamlabs All Stars is a free program that gives creators a shot at winning cool prizes while using Streamlabs tools to boost their channel and brand. We sat down with this year's winner, Mike aka CyKoSYC, to talk about his life as an up-and-coming streamer and, of course, all the fun he had at TwitchCon Las Vegas.
What was the moment that made you say to yourself, “I want to be a Twitch streamer?”
If there’s anything you could go back and tell yourself before starting out in this industry, what would it be?
I would probably tell myself not to worry about all the “flashy” setup things and just play games. Because at the time, I thought getting the latest or coolest aesthetic for eye candy was something that was “needed.”
What’s your favorite part about streaming?
My favorite part about streaming is interacting/talking to friends or people who come to the chat. You know, just going out there. Or when I get questions about my time in the military or my hobbies, I feel like people want to get to know me.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of streaming?
Some of my favorite hobbies outside of streaming, I used to say computers, whether it was teaching myself to fix, build, or learn to program. One hobby that I like to do but haven't had much time to do, is woodworking. I could sit on my PC and watch videos on how to create simple woodworking projects all day. Oh and another hobby—I think this is a hobby— is to go out and try different ramen places around my area and surrounding cities. So far, I have about four favorite spots.
What is something your viewers may be surprised to learn about you?
Hmmm, I'm not really too sure, but if it had to be something, it would probably be that I listen to different genres of music. My playlist is all over the place—country, jazz, EDM, cinematic score, etc. I remember this one picture of a meme floating around on social media talking about how their playlist goes from rap to classical, and it's just all over the place, and I'm like, “that's pretty much MY playlist”.
What has been the most memorable moment of your streaming career so far?
Honestly, as small of a moment this is to some, but for me, it was when I had more than a few people talking in my chat. I'm sure to some people, that doesn't mean anything, but being a small streamer who doesn't stream on a regular basis, it's big for me, and I'll take it.
How was your TwitchCon experience? Any highlights you’d like to share?
Oh jeez—the experience was just incredible, from the moment I got the email to the last day of TwitchCon. This was my very first TwitchCon. I got to meet some of the top streamers whom I normally watch, like Maya, Fuslie, Blau, Poki, QuarterJade, to name a few. They were awesome to meet and really nice to talk to—just beautiful people. I was so stoked to see Wild Bills Soda there, because I love their flavors of root beer and cream soda. If I had known they were going to be at TwitchCon, I would've brought my mug from home. It's ok, though, because I usually like to get their “event” mug, but they didn't have one this time. So instead, I just grabbed their orange mug.
I was so busy going around the expo hall area trying out the new Tarkov game, checking out the gamer drinks, and playing games, that I didn't attend any of the panels. I think I was just trying to live in the moment of experiencing it all. I hope they bring TwitchCon to Phoenix, Arizona, because I would totally go to that one.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with anyone reading this article?
Huge thank you to Streamlabs and Logitech. I really hope that someone was able to find Kevin and send him back. Also, if you haven't been to TwitchCon, I highly suggest that you go and experience it because it really is cool and amazing. You can network with other streamers or brands or meet the streamers that you watch.
