Hi, I’m Zach Moldof. My wife Tiffany and I founded Skate Bud Program because we were both victims of childhood criminalization, and skateboarding gave us both the tools to save ourselves. When we started our business, we had a skateboard magazine and marketing agency called Stoke Much. We wanted to do our part to create more opportunities for all the amazing and talented people we know, but as it turns out, the City of Los Angeles needed us for something else. In our first year operating the magazine we started working with Los Angeles Parks & Rec doing free programming at skateparks, and now in our 6th year our business is solely focused on programming and the tools and systems required for municipalities and institutions to interface with authentic skate culture effectively.

Our work is pretty simple: we preserve and publish cultural heritage, we get skateboards, we give them away to kids who need them, we provide mentorship through the premise of learning skateboarding, we celebrate participants’ accomplishments, and we provide our participants with opportunities to grow in ways that they find meaningful. The simplicity of our work betrays the complexity of organizing and coordinating all the organizations and people who make the work happen, and it has taken a long time for us to learn what we have learned and build the tools to make it repeatable and scalable for other communities.

We have built our business slowly, and we have built all our own technology tools along the way. And now, we have built a complete system that allows us to administer services in any skate community, and link any skate community to the essential skate heritage that all skate communities are built on. For $800 we can provide one month of activation: employ a community leader, make the skate community accessible to the public, celebrate the achievements of skaters in the community, and activate an on-demand skate league at any skatepark in the country. For $50 we can give away a complete skateboard with a helmet and pads. And for $25 we can pay for one hour of direct mentorship. Our work has a proven outcome, and now that we are an official non-profit anyone can fund our programs anywhere.

We work with LA Mayor’s Office, LA Library, Orange County, Winter Park, Florida Department of State, Orlando Science Center, and a growing network of municipalities and institutions. We work with historical innovators like Shiloh Greathouse, Socrates Leal, Fabian Alomar, and Paul Schmitt. We work with many of today’s top pros, and even some Olympic athletes. All of this allows us to deliver experiences that are both unique and engaging, but also empowering, enduring, and authentic. We are excited at all that can be achieved through skating today, and we are ensuring that any upward momentum is shared with disenfranchised innovators who made this all possible.
